Psalm 103:13 - As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
Fathers can find the perfect model for their own parenting throughout the Bible. God is the perfect Father. No other example can compare. Psalm 103 is a great encouragement for today’s fathers to see that the LORD is a merciful father full of compassion. He does not always belittle but rather teaches through experience. His love is higher than anyone can imagine and he removes our sin so far from us that it will never return.
As a father myself, I often struggle with the balance of work and family responsibilities. Truly speaking, being a dad and husband is more important to me than anything else. I take my duties seriously but realize too often, I cannot do this on my own. I always need that push from the heavens above to get up each morning and fulfill my responsibilities until I hit the bed.
I encourage all fathers to hold close Psalm 103 to their hearts. Our Lord has already modeled for us the perfect father. We do not need to invent the perfect dad role. We simply need to look to our Father who has paid for our sin debt through His Son’s blood and has forgiven us.
Abba Father, Help us so that we look to the LORD for wisdom, guidance, and inspiration as we father our children. In Jesus' name, Amen
